Richmond will finish of their season against the Swans in Sydney on Saturday afternoon. The team who lines up against them should remain relatively unchanged. There may be an injury cloud over recently contract-extended Bachar Houli however, who injured his wrist in the loss to the Saints despite playing out the game. If the Tigers were to lose him they could regain the services of Jason Castagna who played partly on the half-back in the VFL win over Sandringham last Sunday afternoon – he netted 16 disposals, five tackles and three inside-50s – with Richmond VFL Coach Craig McRae commenting on his pressure around the contest as a real strength on the day.
Some other AFL-listed players, who also played in the win over Sandringham, are making a case to play in the last game of the 2016 season. There are namely two – Anthony Miles and Reece Conca. The former returned from AFL duties and performed really well. He netted 29 disposals, 15 contested possessions, seven clearances and four tackles – also that he performed well against Sydney earlier this season should potentially work in his favour. The latter meanwhile started the game down back and then went into the midfield, so could be another defensive option aside from Castagna if Houli is ruled out. Conca netted 21 disposals, four clearances, four tackles and also kicked two goals. It was a solid contribution that might just earn him a senior recall.
If Miles and Conca do return, who just comes out for them is not clear cut. Damien Hardwick is after all committed to playing the kids – though it could be time for one of the few in the team now to take a well earned rest. However, off the back of Daniel Rioli’s Rising Star Nomination in the previous round, there is every reason for the kids to not be rested.
Who do you think will make the best 22 on Saturday afternoon?
